What is Kratom?

Kratom, scientifically known as Mitragyna speciosa, is a member of the coffee family and grows as a tropical tree in Southeast Asia. Its natural habitat includes the forests of Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Papua New Guinea. Although it is native to these regions, all kratom imported to the United States originates from Indonesia. The leaves of mature kratom trees are harvested, dried, and crushed. Kratom leaves have a long history of use by the people of Southeast Asia, spanning centuries.

History of Kratom?

Kratom, scientifically identified as Mitragyna speciosa, has gained immense popularity in recent years in the United States and Europe. However, its use in “western” countries is relatively new compared to its origins. Indigenous to Southeast Asia, specifically Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Myanmar, kratom has been a part of local culture for centuries. It has been integrated into many traditions, such as communal ceremonies, religious practices, and recreational use. Kratom is also commonly used by workers, particularly manual laborers, fishermen, and farmers, to boost productivity at work.
